Watch this powerful video of the actions of Police Chief Leonard Campanello in Gloucester, MA. He decided to approach the drug epidemic in his town differently. Instead of arresting those who abused opiates and heroin, the chief invited them to seek help…at the police station. Since June, 137 people have come seeking help. This chief realized that simply cutting off the supply or making arrests isn’t the long term answer, especially to those who feel stuck.
Any addict who walks into the police station with the remainder of their drug equipment (needles, etc) or drugs and asks for help will NOT be charged. Instead we will walk them through the system toward detox and recovery. — Chief Leonard Campanello, Gloucester Police Department

This is the kind of compassion and action that changes lives…and could change the whole face of the “war on drugs.”
